Cancun, Mexico (November 17th, 2007) – The Cancun International Film Festival (CIFF) announced its awards for the 2007 inaugural film festival at an Awards Gala held at the Royal Resort in Cancun, Mexico Saturday night.
Best Film: Mutum, by Sandra Kogut (Brazil)
Best Director: Patricia Riggen, La Misma Luna (Mexico)
Best Actor: Rodrigo Santoro, Não Por Acaso, by Philippe Barcinski (Brazil/Portugese)
Best Actress: Carmen Salinas , La Misma Luna (Mexico)
Honorable Mention: El Telon de Azucar, (The Sugar Curtain), by Camila Guzmán Urzúa
Latin American Short Film Competition: Viva Volta (Turning) by Heloisa Passos (Brazil)
International Humanitarian Award: Gabrielle Union
International Actor Award: Rade Sherbedgia
Lifetime Achievement Award: Don Ignacio López Tarso
CIFF 2007 ran consecutively over 5 days from November 14th through November 18th, 2007. Dedicated to the discovery and development of Mexican, Latin American and International film, filmmakers and audiences, the Cancun International Film Festival was truly a “Film Festival for the Americas.”
The inaugural Cancun International Film Festival was held in the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Cancun, Mexico. The CIFF feature film program consisted largely of Latin American premieres and programs supporting and awarding aspiring and world renowned filmmakers, screenwriters and actors from Mexico and the Americas. The CIFF is devoted to the promotion and recognition of emerging filmmaking talents from Mexico and throughout Latin America. Industry executives, journalists, film professionals, consumers and cinema fans from around the world attended the inaugural festival this November.
